San Andrés


I am a student of International Marketing and advertising, I'm in 7th semester. I love sports, my favorite sport is baseball, and I practice from 5 years.
I also like soccer, my favorite teams are the glorious DeportivoCali and Real Madrid. Thanks to the sport, took a trip to San Andres Island to represent my department, we were one week competing, plus I stay another week of walking. For this reason, in this blog I want to show the activities you can do in San Andrés.


 This Blog will tell you make the trip to San Andrés where he was walking and competing. It was more or less in 2009, was a trip to enjoy much since the pass with my family, and besides that represented my department.


The San Andrés Island  is the largest of the islands that make up the Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Providencia, with its total length of 26 km².

During the last three years has increased the number of tourists to San Andrés. He went from 341,293 tourists in 2003-377.619 last year, of which 292,741 are foreign nationals and 84,878.
The island's weather is warm, ranging between 26 ° C and 29 ° C in two seasons dominated summer and winter. The winds help relieve some heat, usually blowing from the east, and when there are storms in the Caribbean strongly the wind blows from the northeast. Generally during the year the rains are defined by a dry season and a rainy season. The first has a variable length that can reach five consecutive months, while the following months are rainy, with strong winds towards the end of the year.

Gastronomy:

The typical dishes are conformed by sea food. Their gastronomy confirms the most recognized plate for inhabitants and tourists is the Rondon, its ingredients are: fish, snail, donplin, pig tail, breadfruit (typical of the island) yucca and ñame, all prepared with a delicious coconut base.



 Other plates are snail, lobster, crab and fried fish. This delicious variety of dishes is found in the different restaurants specialized in the island, all with spectacular decoration and the best environment making their cooking the best of the Caribbean.





Beaches:

The Beaches of North End, Rocky Cay, Cocoplum, Sound Bay, Johnny Cay and Acuario. In Providence the beaches of Manzanillo, Freshwater bay and South best bay and others. Visit the beaches of our Archipelago, enjoy with your family and friends of a sunny day at the beach, and walk by the moonlight.

 The hill:

Native sector of the island. It’s the highest place of the island (approximate 120 meters above sea level), where you can see the most spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea, where the contrast of blues and greens make a colors mixture that is called the “seven colored sea”. For the adventurer and ecologist there are paths, lagoons, sidewalks, roads, horse trips that make the island a place full of magic. For the historians we have the first church of the island, it’s a place that you must visit, you will enjoy the most spectacular view of the San Andres bay.


                        



San Luis:






This beautiful area is full of history and culture, in the past it was an important port where ships full of coconuts were embarked, and nowadays it is a very quiet place, away from the noise of the city, with long and beautiful beaches, typical restaurants and a beautiful environment.


Mangrooves:





In the Archipelago we have 12 mangrove forests, being this very important for the reproduction and preservation of the flora and fauna, between them we find the red, black and white mangroves, also the visitors can see oysters, crabs, iguana, lizards, endemic and migratory birds, making an ideal place for education and fortifying activities of development such as eco-tourism.



Johnny Cay:


This beautiful cay was converted to a natural park in the year 2001, for it’s beauty and beautiful landscapes, and because you can find more than 30 species of fishes that live in this area, its long area has a specie called "beach cedar" that controls the erosion of the beaches because of the effects of waves and strong winds, becoming as a shelter of a lot of beaches birds.





In all around it you can see beautiful beaches and big coral forms, where easily you can observe a variety of species, being an attractive for their visitors to practice water sports, like snorkeling, diving and others.






Morgan’s Cave:



Legend has it that the Pirate Henry Morgan, used this cave to hide his treasures. Today is one of the most visited tourist attractions. You can enter the cave and visit the small museum.





Scuba Diving:

San Andres, Providence and Santa Catalina have one of the longest coral reefs of the world, with variety of fishes and colored corals.

Diving is one of the preferred sports, with natural contrast, we have the possibility to find different scenarios for the practice of this sport, like caves, walls, cliffs, and sunken ships for those who love adventure. All the places are very near, only a few minutes from the coast you will find a lot of bio-diversity, there is also a possibility to dive from the edge without going too far.
